Aaron & Ari's – Pittsburgh, PA

by aaron on February 25, 2010

There aren’t that many Kosher places to eat in my home town, Pittsburgh. The “fancy” sit down place (Pinati’s) closed down last year and that left two places that are more “fast food” types of places (well, two and a half if you count the Dunkin’ Donuts).

Aaron & Ari’s is one of the two places that are left. Since they had a flood last summer they redid the décor of the place, and that is for the better. The menu is pretty extensive with most of the Chinese dishes having a beef, chicken or just vegetables. They also have egg rolls with vegetables or pastrami. There is no waiter service so you place the order at the front and then wait for the food.

I ordered the General Tso’s chicken and they asked me how spicy I wanted it. I asked for it to be very spicy and they delivered in spades. The vegetables were tasty and crispy and the sauce was quite good, although there was a bit more than there should have been. Having said that, they put a lot into a serving.

Over all it’s a good place and not too expensive. A steady place to eat while you are in Pittsburgh.

Sick days

by aaron on December 11, 2009

There is nothing worse than getting and being sick when you are away from home. I found my self in such a predicament this week. I travelled up to the Boston area this week for some meeting with existing resellers, educating some staff at various Apple Stores and meeting with new potential resellers.

Wednesday afternoon I walked into a place and bought lunch. I ordered something that sounded interesting called a veggie grinder (that’s a sub or hero to the rest of the world). I ate that and then went on my merry way. Later in the day I started feeling not so hot. I figured it was due to the cold and wet weather that Boston was having so I continued on and went out for dinner. It was then that I really started to feel worse.

I found that I couldn’t finish my meal and wound up leaving a lot left over. I drove back to my hotel room and then crashed for the night. Finally getting to sleep at around 10pm. In the middle of the night I sort of remember getting up and needing to take care of the reverse peristalsis procedure. The next morning I woke up late (for me) and feeling a bit better. It didn’t really matter how I felt because I had some meetings yesterday and the show had to go on. Not to mention that I had to check out of the hotel.

I was able to drive back to Brooklyn but during the trip I started to feel worse and then when I got home it was not much better. Some of it may have been from watching the Steelers play last night but that is a different blog post.

Coffee Heaven

April 19, 2009

I like my coffee and I make no apologies for that. I also like to have my coffee on demand in the morning and not have to worry about staining the sink with the left over coffee. That is why I finally broke down and bought the Keurig B40 single cup coffee brewing system. You [...]

It’s that time of year again

March 29, 2009

Yes folks, Kosher for Passover Coke is now available. The difference is that in the Kosher for Passover versions, they use care sugar instead of corn fructose which give it a better taste, so I am told (I’m a Diet Coke or Coke Zero kind of guy). Both Jews and non-Jews alike buy this stuff [...]

Boston

March 22, 2009

Last week I had a business trip up to Boston. It’s one of the easier cities to stay in if you’re looking for Kosher food and places for prayers. Especially if you are not required to stay in downtown Boston since there is plenty of good places to eat in a little town outside of [...]
