Ancient Aliens and Science Fiction

by aaron on November 6, 2011

I’ve always had an interest in UFO theories and the other kinds of unexplained phenomena. It’s one of the things that I’ve shared with my grandfather over the years. Of late the one that I’ve been really following (mostly because of the TV show) is the Ancient Astronaut theory. I don’t believe the theory but I find it interesting.  Add to this the fact that I’ve always enjoyed books in the science fiction genre. When you combine the two and find a book that is in the science fiction genre about Ancient Astronauts and you’ve hit the sweet spot for me. Luckily I’ve found such a book, Vimana (also available for the Kindle).

I’m only a chapter into the book, but I’m really excited by the concept of this book. I hope to write a review of the book once I’m done.

Good Kindle, Bad Kindle

by aaron on March 9, 2011

I’ve talked about this before but you know what the best thing about having a Kindle is? It’s the fact that you can have as many books on it as there is memory on the device. You know what the bad thing about having a Kindle is (at least for me)? I tend to start books and not finish them. Case in point, I’m now in the middle of 5 books on my Kindle.

  1. The Toyota Way
  2. The Effective Executive
  3. Alexander Hamilton
  4. Kosher Nation
  5. Bearers of the Black Staff

Recently it’s gotten to the point that it’s really crazy so now I’ve just decided to read one book at a time. I think that due to how ginormous the book is, I’ll be saving the book about Alexander Hamilton for last. This doesn’t include the instapaper articles that now get sent to my Kindle on a daily basis. I wish that I had more time to read.

Book bleg

February 20, 2011

I’m looking for some good books for “the kid”. She’s 10 and she likes the fantasy genre. So far she has read all of the books from Rick Riordan (Percy Jackson universe and the first Kane Chronicles book). She’s also gone through the Alcatraz books from Brandon Sanderson, which she loved. I’ve tried getting her [...]

The Way of Kings

November 23, 2010

I always love the start of a new fantasy series. There are new characters, new worlds and if the book is good a sense of potential for the overall series. That is why I was so excited to have Brandon Sanderson’s new book “The Way of Kings” come out a few months ago. Its book [...]

816 reasons why I bought a Kindle

November 4, 2010

My copy of Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson’s “Towers of Midnight” arrived today. Not surprisingly, it’s very thick and with the glossary it comes to 816 pages. After I got over my excitement about finally having the penultimate book of the Wheel of Time series, I couldn’t believe that I used to carry around books like [...]

The Prologue is Out!

September 21, 2010

It’s an exciting day today as the prologue for The Towers of Midnight, the 13th book in the Wheel of Time, series was released in ebook format today. This is a regular thing that TOR does for the WOT books and being the sheep that I am, I bought a copy. I have not started [...]

Happy Birthday Agatha!

September 15, 2010

You may have noticed from the birthday widget on the site that today is the birthday of one of the greatest mystery writers of all times, Dame Agatha Christie. She would have been 120 years old today. I remember the first time that I saw the cover of one of her books. It was at [...]

A jewish narnia

March 5, 2010

I found this article by way of instapundit and it’s something that I have wondered as well. Why are there no Jewish fantasy writers? I think that the answers he comes up with are interesting but not necessarily complete. Yes there isn’t a duality in Judaism but I do think a book (or a series) [...]

The Gathering Storm

February 11, 2010

No, I won’t be blogging about the little blizzard that hit NYC yesterday. That would be the gathered storm wouldn’t it? Instead I wanted to write about the latest book in the Wheel of Time series of books, The Gathering Storm. I have been a big fan of the series for several years and have [...]
